Get Involved
FORJ@Cabot meets virtually the first Thursday of every month, from 8-9pm to discuss activities like the ones below. We'd love to see you there! Email us (cabotpto.forj@gmail.com) and we'll send you the Zoom link for our next meet-up.
Each family is unique in how they want to get involved in work related to racial justice. Below you'll find diverse options, so you can focus your time and energy on the area that speaks to you.
Families of Color
Affinity Group
The group fosters connection, community and support for families who have kids at Newton schools in which at least one family member identifies as a Person of Color.
This year, we held several parent zoom sessions, hosted a virtual kid event, and had a playground meetup for families. Connect with us on Facebook
FORJ Social Action
at Cabot
This group works collaboratively to foster antiracist change within the community. Recent efforts focused on the support of recruitment, hiring, and retention of staff; working on policies for racist incident reporting and response; and supporting school communications after national events. Join us as we shape the agenda for social change at Cabot.
Parent Book Club & Podcast Club
Join parent discussions about books and podcasts centered on race, with the intention of building connection and learning together. Book highlights include: Stamped and Such a Fun Age. Podcast selections have focused on school segregation, cross-racial friendship, and reparations. For the full list of media we've discussed, click here.
Building Community
Cabot Connecting Families focuses on events and initiatives that bring our community together, with an emphasis on connections between Boston and Newton families at Cabot. (Learn more about the METCO program, which brings Boston families to Newton schools.)
From virtual dance parties to outdoor playdates, we kept the spirit alive during the pandemic. Next year, we look forward to in-person gatherings. Help us plan, or just show up and join in the fun!
Get Involved Beyond Cabot
While FORJ@Cabot focuses on initiatives within the Cabot community specifically, there is complementary work happening at the broader district level -- from social action work related to housing or policy to events and parent workshops. We'd be happy to connect you if you want to get involved in this important work.
Show your support for METCO by buying a t-shirt here
In addition to promoting this positive message, you'll be supporting a Boston Black-owned small business personally known to a Cabot FORJ member and METCO parent. The site includes t-shirts, sweatshirts, totes, and more.
Contact cabotpto.forj@gmail.com if you’d like to get involved with initiatives here,
or if you have other ideas for how we can support our mission within the Cabot community.
